Chet Faker and Kilo Kish have left us with just a little taste of what could be a match made in heaven. Chet’s sultry, heartfelt sound works beautifully with Kilos carefully placed vocals. Clearly we need more, much more.
Nico Pusch keeps with his consistent flow of good tunes with Mama. It takes a little while to unfold but its minimalist piano and deep house grooves keep you hooked until the end. Perfect for those moments where you need a little something to take the edge of. It does make it easier since the track is available for free download on his soundcloud page.
This Sunday mornings music stumble lead to discovering the mellow, husky vocals of Emma Louise. If Daughter was a happier band it would sound a lot like her. While her EP Full Hearts and Empty Rooms works within the folk-pop genre; Songs like Jungle and Freedom veer towards down-tempo, electronica. Every element hits a dizzying pitch. The synths taking creating one of those eternal build ups we can’t resist. She takes you to that spot in your brain where you […]
While most of us are still caught up in our limit to your love hangup James Blake is off exploring a different sound. Retrograde is our first taste of his latest album Overgrown releasing April 8th this year. While one can distinctly associate this to all the rest of his music something about seems more accessible. I can’t believe I’m saying this but the structure to the song makes it a little refreshing. The bigger vocal track and the build […]
A little while ago Gold Panda posted a link on his page asking us to vote for his friend Sofia Kourtesis. Both artists have worked together to create just a little bit of magic. Breaking all notions of rhythm and harmony Sofia and Gold Panda have put together an eclectic landscape of sound. Turn on, Tune in, Drop out. Here’s to hoping we hear more soonish!
I can’t believe I’m writing this post for one song but this particularly elusive band leaves me with no choice. Post listening to Hey Now by London Grammar on Pinboard I spent a considerable amount of time trawling through the internet looking for more. I was left with one more song, no information on the band and constant links back to this song. 3 minutes and 27 seconds of a brutal assault to the deepest reaches of your soul and […]
Discovering Sandunes on Wild City was a serious highlight to my eternal forage for interesting music. Her hypnotic take on all things stemming from the UK underground keeps you going for hours! At some point during the week she agreed to my asking her some questions for the blog so here it is, the second ever interview: Sidewaystosound presents, Sandunes. When you start a new project is it usually something you listen to that influences you or something that happens […]
When you have two musicians, one from a math rock group and the other from an experimental, electronica collective get together to make music you are bound to have something interesting. This needn’t be a good thing though fortunately for us Aluna Francis and George Reid have embraced their sound to produce some phenomenal music. Bordering on the slightly bizarre this glossy, bubblegum pop duo just gets better every time. Alunas high pitched childish vocals coupled with Georges skittish beats […]
Probably one of the only reality tv shows I follow religiously is So You Think You Can Dance. Apart from the fantastic dancing its an interesting insight into how the choreographers, dancers and audience interpret music. Sometimes the dancing and music fit so beautifully with each other that try as you might every other visual perception of the song seems a little off. I’m not sure if this post if this post is a tribute to choreographer Mia Michaels and […]
Does everyone have this feelings sometimes where they want to, for no logical reason sit on the floor and throw a tantrum of epic proportions? It doesn’t matter if you did the exercise or if you spent the day out with fabulous company all you want to do is sit around and yell at no one in particular. Since I am not four anymore and getting away with these fits is harder I managed to find a playlist on 8tracks […]
There are lots of cures to rain: You could drown your woes in hot chocolate(this could get you wired) or alcohol(this just gets you depressed) You could cuddle(I’m finding my pillow to be a passable alternative to an actual person, though I’m thinking it will pass soon) You could play board games(don’t scoff they are fun) or You could wake up to find that Little Dragon has released their first single since their album Ritual Union last year. The song […]
